NEW ORLEANS HORNETS’ PEJA STOJAKOVIC KEEPS CHARITABOWL ROLLING
Second Annual Charitabowl Fundraiser to Benefit Local Community Projects
NEW ORLEANS - October 1, 2008 - New Orleans Hornets forward Peja Stojakovic announced today that he will host his 2nd annual "Peja’s Charitabowl" fundraiser Sunday, December 7th, 2008, at the All Star Lanes in Kenner, LA.
All proceeds from the bowling event will go toward Peja’s "Courts for Kids", a project of the Peja Stojakovic Children’s Foundation with a mission to promote health and fitness education through the game of basketball. The initiative installs new basketball courts, refurbishes existing ones and distributes basketball equipment in economically disadvantaged areas of New Orleans and gives children an opportunity to stay off the streets.
Lane sponsorships start at $1,500 for one lane and $2,500 for two lanes. Each lane includes bowling for four, one celebrity bowler, four bowling shirts, dinner and a special gift bag. Lane sponsors and other corporate sponsorship packages are also available at a variety of price points. Lane sponsorships and tickets for the Charitabowl can be purchased by calling 504-208-2274 or by visiting www.peja16.com. VIP (non-bowler) tickets are also available at $100 per person. The VIP tickets include dinner and a gift bag as well as opportunity to bid for live and silent auction items. Dinner is scheduled at 5:00pm, and bowling at 6:30pm.
Hornets’ players, Honeybee dancers, Hugo and other local celebrities will attend the event. The Charitabowl will also feature a live DJ, photo and autograph opportunities, and a live and silent auction with memorabilia and other distinctive items. Prizes will be given away throughout the evening.
Stojakovic, a three-time NBA All-Star and member of the Hornets since 2006, is dedicated to giving back to the local community. His inaugural "Charitabowl", which was held in March 2007, was a great success and accepted with great energy from the New Orleans community and the Hornets organization. Participants had a great time bowling while socializing with their celebrity guests such as: Subway Spokesperson Jared Fogle, Saints players Deuce McAllister, Zach Strife, Pierre Thomas, Jermon Bushrod, local media celebrities and all the New Orleans Hornets players including Chris Paul, David West, Tyson Chandler and Coach Byron Scott. First inaugural "Charitabowl" rose over $45,000. In addition Hornets forward made personal commitment of matching the exact amount, which brought enough funds to build a brand new basketball court in Iberville Projects in New Orleans. The basketball court in Iberville is estimated to be completed by the first home game of the season against the Cavaliers on November 1st.
This summer Peja Stojakovic Children’s Foundation partnered with International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) and provided mobility assistance to more than 160 disabled people in Thessaloniki, Greece. More than $200,000 in wheelchairs, including sports wheelchairs for disabled athletes, and other mobility devices and therapeutic equipment were distributed throughout Peja’s hometown of Thessaloniki, Greece. Peja also provided adidas gear to more than 400 children in Kosovo at the beginning of September. In addition, with the assistance of Feed The Children Foundation and IOCC, Peja has provided a 40’ container with over 20 pallets of baby food and supplies for the children of Kosovo. This container is going to be distributed in coming weeks with the local assistance of IOCC.
